WHO WE ARE

Helios Education Foundation exists to support postsecondary attainment for all students, especially low-income and underrepresented communities, in Arizona and Florida. Driven by our fundamental beliefs of community, equity, investment, and partnership, Helios has invested more than $350 million in partnerships and initiatives focused on improving third-grade reading, college-going, and postsecondary attainment in the two states we serve since 2006.

Every individual in Arizona and Florida has the opportunity to attend and is prepared to succeed in postsecondary education.

Our Vision

To enrich the lives of individuals in Arizona and Florida by creating opportunities for success in postsecondary education.

Our Mission

Our History

Created in 2004 through the conversion and reorganization of the nonprofit Southwest Student Services Corporation (Southwest) and its affiliates, Arizona Educational Loan Marketing Corporation, and Florida Educational Loan Marketing Corporation.

Southwest was a full-service provider of student loan products and services. At the time of the reorganization, it was the eighth-largest holder of federally insured student loans in the country. On February 27, 2004, Southwest was sold to SLM Corporation for more than $500 million. The net proceeds of the sale funded the endowment of Helios Education Foundation.

Since its inception, Helios has invested more than $350 million across Arizona and Florida to improve student success and their long-term quality of life.

Helios Education Foundation's Community Investments are directed by the following guidelines and criteria:
