Governor Hobbs Names Education a Top Priority for Arizona

Helios Education Foundation applauds Governor Katie Hobbs for her strong focus on Arizona’s students and schools in her first State of the State address.

We are pleased to see increased investment in dual enrollment opportunities, which will provide more students the opportunity to begin their postsecondary education while in high school. No longer will students question whether they are ready for college after completing college-level work in high school. This will help accelerate the development of talent the state needs to reach our statewide attainment goal and be economically competitive.

Additionally, we enthusiastically support the proposed expansion of the Arizona Promise Program, which will put college within reach for more students from low-income backgrounds, including students now eligible for in-state tuition with the passage of Proposition 308.

Finally, we echo the governor’s call to fund schools fairly and equitably and hold all schools receiving public funds accountable for delivering results for their students.

We and our partners look forward to engaging with the governor and the legislature on these and other priorities. Arizona’s students and their families deserve our best efforts to provide a strong education system that allows every student to thrive.
