Meet Helios Ready Now Yuma Scholar: Anelys Romo Herrera
San Luis High School, Class of 2024
Arizona State University
As someone from a low-income, first-generation family, I understand how overwhelming and stressful just thinking about college can be. I’ve always believed that everyone deserves the opportunity to pursue an education. However, money often becomes the biggest barrier to earning a degree, even for students like myself who have the dedication, commitment, and passion to succeed but simply cannot afford the cost.
That's why being a Helios Ready Now Yuma Scholar means so much to me. This scholarship has relieved a huge financial burden and allowed me to focus on my education and goals. Without it, I truly wouldn’t be where I am today. I’m studying Chemical Engineering at Arizona State University as a Barrett Honors College student.
The Helios Ready Now Yuma Scholarship has opened doors I never thought possible, and I’m incredibly grateful and honored to have been awarded this scholarship along with several other scholarships supported by Helios. This includes the Education Forward Scholarship and the Chevy Humphrey Women in STEM Scholarship. Beyond relieving financial stress, these scholarships have connected me to an inspiring community of scholars from diverse backgrounds and passions.
I’m an incoming sophomore this fall feel super excited for what the future holds for me. I plan to get involved in research opportunities and internships where I can explore more in depth my passion for science and engineering.
