Helios Education Foundation is excited to announce the addition of Janice Palmer as Vice President and Director of Policy. Ms. Palmer will be responsible for identifying policy opportunities that leverage and/or positively impact the Foundation’s investments and ensure current policy and advocacy activities inform the Foundation’s work, in both Arizona and Florida.
Ms. Palmer comes to Helios Education Foundation after working over 15 years at one of our partners, the Arizona School Boards Association (ASBA) where she held the role of Governmental Relations and Public Affairs. In that role, she developed, executed, and measured annual strategic state and federal legislative and public affairs plans for key education legislation. Ms. Palmer has lobbied legislators on ASBA’s priorities and other education legislation, regularly presented at ASBA conferences and other seminars and workshops, and effectively created and maintained key relationships with education stakeholders and policymakers throughout the state.
This past year, Ms. Palmer played a major role in the negotiations to settle the school finance lawsuit that resulted in Proposition 123 being placed on the Arizona special election ballot on May 2016.
She graduated magna cum laude from Arizona State University with a Bachelor’s degree in English and Political Science.
