As a foundation focused on the success of students in Arizona and Florida, we are celebrating some positive gains in both states toward our mission of greater educational opportunities for students.

Recently, the Arizona Department of Education released AzMERIT exam data which indicates some significant gains in proficiency in 11th grade English/Language Arts.  We are paying especially close attention to the 11th grade results as we have been working for several years on our College Knowing & Going Initiative which provides college preparation activities to high-school juniors.  While there is certainly work to do to increase the numbers even further, the gains in proficiency are due, in large part, to educators’ increased focus on college and career readiness.   There has been tremendous effort in Arizona to raise the bar and create a college-going culture.  The results of the latest AzMERIT exam indicate the efforts are making a difference.

In Florida, we recently saw significant improvement in the number of schools that earned an “A” according to the 2018-2019 Florida School Accountability Report released by the Florida Department of Education.  The school grades are calculated annually based on up to 11 components, including student achievement and learning gains on statewide, standardized assessments and high school graduation rate.  Congratulations to Florida educators for their dedication and commitment to excellence in the classroom.

There is great work being done across both states toward creating opportunities for students and we are grateful for our partners who are working diligently toward brighter futures and stronger communities.
