Making Education Arizona’s Priority

There has never been a more important time in Arizona education as we ask ourselves: Do we have the leadership and public will to achieve a world-class education system for all students? Is our culture built on the highest of expectations where all students have the opportunity to attain a postsecondary education and graduate ready to compete in today's globalized economy?
Arizona has made a lot of progress in recent years.
We have raised expectations for our students by adopting Arizona's Common Core Standards, and we have put greater emphasis on supporting early literacy and promoting diverse pathways to college and career success.
Even so, there is still great opportunity ahead.
That's one of the reasons why Helios Education Foundation chose to be the lead sponsor of NBC News' Education Nation - Phoenix, May 2-10.Through this partnership, we helped facilitate thoughtful dialogue among business and civic leaders, teachers, students and parents around critical education issues and opportunities across our state.
We heard from a number of community stakeholders who exchanged ideas about innovative initiatives as well as some of the education challenges we face as a State.
Elevating the performance and preparedness of students is a national challenge and Arizona has demonstrated leadership in finding solutions. In fact, many of our students are benefitting from bold educational leadership, unique public-private collaborations and a growing cultural transformation to higher expectations.
We hope Education Nation - Phoenix helped inspire widespread commitment to doing "whatever it takes" to ensure our students advance across the education continuum and achieve success in college and career.
