Paul J. Luna, President and CEO of Helios Education Foundation, joined Superintendent Toni Badone and more than 500 teachers and staff at the Yuma Union High School District Back to School Kick-Off event on Friday, August 2.
Superintendent Badone challenged the faculty and staff to "create a culture of greatness" in the district and commit to ensure that every student graduates prepared to succeed in college and career.
"The key word in that sentence is 'every'," said Badone. "Our commitment is to all students, regardless of their past academic performance or future goals."
In addition to thanking the faculty and staff for their commitment to student success, Paul J. Luna also spoke about Ready Now Yuma, an initiative of Helios Education Foundation and the Yuma Union High School District. At its core, this initiative is increasing academic rigor, getting parents, families and the community more engaged and providing the resources to help make those things happen.
"We need a culture shift in our homes, in our schools and in our communities," said Luna. "We have to set high expectations for our students and provide them the support and encouragement they need to meet those expectations."
The Ready Now Yuma initiative is a partnership and wouldn't be possible without the commitment of the teachers, administrators and community leaders who work together to achieve greatness in Yuma.
"Yuma is a shining example and a model of leadership, passion and commitment to student success," said Luna.
