2015 Diamondbacks – Helios Scholars Recognized

Author: Helios Education Foundation

July 21, 2015

Vince Roig, Helios Education Foundation Founding Chairman and Paul Luna, President and CEO joined eight D-backs Helios Scholarship recipients Sunday, July 19  as they were recognized at Chase Field. Each scholarship recipient is an incredibly deserving, academically gifted student with great stories of leadership, strength, hope and perseverance. The selected students completed a college preparatory program, demonstrated academic strength and a compelling desire to attend college, with a priority given to students with limited financial resources. In addition to the scholarship funding, each student will have access to an Arizona College Scholarship Foundation mentor to support their education needs throughout their college career.

Launched in 2012, the unique partnership between the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation, Helios Education Foundation and College Success Arizona (formerly Arizona College Scholarship Foundation) is a representation of each organizations commitment to education in Arizona. With $500,000 in charitable support from the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation and a $500,000 match from the Helios Education Foundation, the scholarship will provide a total of 40 Arizona High School seniors with four-year college scholarships over five years.

Congratulations to this year’s recipients:

Farah Al Yasari, Gateway Early College High School

Zhamae Jordan, Mesa High School

Dwayne Martin-Gomez, ASU Preparatory Academy

Karina Murrieta, Copper Canyon High School

Melina Quezada, Desert Ridge High School

Berenis Reyes, Millennium High School

Vincent Truong, University High

Helios commends each student for their commitment to pursue a four-year degree at an Arizona public university. Congratulations to each scholar and their families and thanks to the Arizona Diamondbacks for their partnership.
